We’ve already covered the most important thing women want in a man -- confidence-- a man who is sure of himself.

So what are some other things women want in a man?

On to more about what women want! Women want a man who can have fun. This doesn’t mean you should be the guy who gets drunk and everyone laughs at him because he makes a total ass of himself. That is not the kind of fun I’m talking about!

Women want a man who can make her laugh. You don’t need to be a comedian, but you do need to have some sense of levity in your life. Serious is dull. Mundane is boring. Don’t be boring!

Studies show that when you laugh in a genuine manner, your defenses go down. Making a woman laugh goes a long way toward building trust.

Women want a man who doesn’t wander. I don’t care if you’re in a bar with a hundred drop dead gorgeous women around you. If you are talking to one woman, make it seem like she is the only woman in the room. If you split your attention between the woman you are talking to and the other women in the room, you will absolutely get shot down.

This doesn’t mean you can’t look at other women. But you need to save that part of yourself until later, when you’ve built a relationship with a woman, and the two of you have an understanding that it’s okay to look, but not to touch (if that’s what the two of you decide).

Be real. Women don’t want a man who is not genuine. Obviously, we are talking about things you need to change in order to get what you want. But that doesn’t mean you change the essence of who you are. It just means you need to change your approach, and show certain aspects of yourself that you haven’t shown when you’ve tried to pick up women in the past.

We all know women want compliments. Don’t give a woman a line just because that’s what you should do. Use the real side of yourself – find something you truly find pretty, or attractive about a woman and tell her. Notice her earrings or her hair or the beautiful sweater she is wearing. Tell her you notice something about her, and do it in a genuine manner.

Women want to be listened to, and don’t want you to fix everything! This is where men and women differ. Men like to fix. Women like to talk about things, to vent if you will. Women like men to listen when they vent and leave the fixing for later, after the venting. Now certainly this tip is for sometime further in the relationship, but it’s still appropriate upon first meeting a woman. When you approach a woman for the first time, give her space to talk. Don’t take over the conversation and do all the talking. Sure, answer her questions when she asks them, but always find a way to turn the conversation back on her so she does the talking. And pay attention to what she says! A reference to something she said 10 minutes ago will go a long way toward making her feel like you really heard what she was saying.

Be careful of the sensitivity trap. Women want a man to be sensitive, but that doesn’t mean you should look like a wimp. Be sensitive to the needs and feelings of the woman you are interested in. Show her you are sensitive to the needs and feelings of other people. But don’t go around crying at the drop of a hat and apologizing for everything. That will make you a wimp, not a sensitive guy! And it certainly won’t make you attractive to women!

Be a gentleman. Contrary to popular belief, chivalry is not dead. It is still considered kind and considerate to hold a door for a woman, to help her into her coat, to give up your seat when there are none left. Never underestimate the impact it has in a crowded bar if you have a seat and you give it up to a woman who doesn’t have one. The woman you give it up to will notice. Other women will notice. And the gesture, small though it may seem, will be looked upon as a positive quality you possess.

We’ll get into more detail about what women want in a relationship later. For now, this brief explanation of what women want is sufficient.
